I had no idea there were other titles. The book and its original title should be pout back into context – when it was written, then when and why it was adapted to the US market. Altug Karakurt I read this book in Turkey and in Turkish and the title of that version can be translated as “Ten Little Niggers” and yes there actually is a specific word for nigger in Turkish.

I have two versions of this book. This was deemed offensive too, so today they use the last line of the children’s rhyme as title and the descarvar figures were changed to soldiers. So throughout the Commonwealth the original title was still in use then.
